Continuous Low-Level Heat Therapy Relief Lasts for Days after Treatment of Acute Low Back Pain

Two clinical studies published in the March 2003 Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation showed that eight hours of continuous, low-level heat relieves acute low back pain for up to 48 hours. Day or night, heat therapy provided greater pain relief than an oral placebo for those tested in the studies. Also, subjects treated while sleeping experienced reduced muscle stiffness and disability, and improved trunk flexibility.

Continuous Low-Level Heat Wrap Therapy Is Effective for Treating Wrist Pain

A prospective, randomized, parallel, single-blind, placebo-controlled multi-center clinical trial showed that Continuous low level heat wrap therapy (CLHT) provided significant benefits in reducing wrist pain by 46% in patients with sprains and strains, tendinosis, osteoarthritis and carpal tunnel syndrome as compared to placebo. CLHT also helped reduce joint stiffness by 58% in these patients, as compared to placebo. Grip strength also increased 1.6-fold in heat wrap treated patients as compared to placebo.
