Technology Development

RSC is utilising advanced biotechnology tools to find suitable combinations for new treatments. This includes use of bioinformatics to accelerate technology development, in particular development and integration of data analysis tools and the use of external information to facilitate the identification of new therapeutic targets and biomarkers. RSC research results in breakthroughs in technology to deliver greater symptom relief, lowered colds incidence and faster recovery.

Treatment Development Map

Technology development is based on targeting specific disease symptoms in order to address the needs of cold sufferers.

Examples of RSC technology development

Cough Technology
Development of throat coating technology based on a sensory muco-protectant system (SMP) to provide immediate feeling of relief and sustained throat coating.

SMP Technology is a patented combination of high molecular weight polymers, sodium carboxymethyl cellulose and polyethylene oxide that create a matrix with excellent bioadhesive properties.

The structural characteristics of the matrix and surfactants aim to create a protective barrier that relieves the irritation associated with cough.

Congestion
Applying a combination of Vaporsystem with a potent decongestant.

Vaporsystem acts on cold receptors to provide an immediate sense of relief from nasal congestion.
Oxymetazoline, a decongestant, is clinically proven to provide up to 8 hours of relief.

Early Cold Intervention
A specially developed ‘First Defense’ system to fight cold viruses when they first take hold. Its triple action supplements natural nasal defense mechanisms to weaken the virus and disrupt the development of a cold.
